The Criminal Code of Belize (Chapter 101, Revised Edition 2011) sets out the criminal offenses recognized in the country and the corresponding penalties. It governs behaviors considered criminal, including homicide, assault, sexual offenses, theft, fraud, corruption, property crimes, and crimes involving minors, among others. The Code also defines general principles of criminal law such as criminal responsibility, attempts, complicity, and the circumstances that may aggravate or mitigate penalties. Its purpose is to protect public order, individual safety, and respect for fundamental rights, and it applies to both nationals and foreigners who commit offenses within the territory of Belize.
